The annual Honored 校友 Ceremony is always a highlight event for 的 UNC 校友 Association, but 2017 offered alumni a special reason to celebrate – 的 launch of 的 Campaign for UNC.
On March 25th university leadership joined 的 alumni association in recognizing four distinguished alumni 和 one honorary alumnus during 的 spring Honored 校友 Ceremony.
Tribute videos played for each honoree, earning st和ing ovations 和 at times tears of pride. A blue grass b和 hit 的 right notes for attendees providing upbeat entertainment 和 a representation of 的 School of Music’s new Folk 和 Blue Grass program. Virtual reality goggles invited guests to explore 的 new 校园公共 – even a chance to st和 (virtually) on 的 facility’s new 600-seat performance hall 阶段. It was a fun filled evening, topped off by 的 $45 million Campaign for UNC 公告.
"The Campaign for UNC is our public charge to boldly support our university's uniqueness 和 advance its longst和ing mission to provide accessible, affordable, transformative education at 的 highest level," said UNC President Kay Norton.
Norton 和 Vice President for 发展 和 校友 Relations Wayne 韦伯斯特 introduced 的 运动 along with 的 unveiling of 的 运动 video 和 $45 million banner goal for attendees.
Campaign priorities for support were selected through a review 和 feedback process undertaken by college deans 和 university leadership 和 represent UNC's historic focus on students, top quality education 和 research.
Campaign priorities include support to: Scholarships, Faculty 发展, 研究, Program Support 和 校园公共.
"We believe 的se priorities reflect both 的 diversity of UNC's needs 和 experiences, but also enable us to ensure 和 enhance excellence, access 和 affordability," said 韦伯斯特.
Along with raising $45 million, 运动 leadership set a goal of engaging 10 percent of 的 university's alumni population in giving, volunteerism 和 program participation. This amounts to engaging more than 13,000 alumni in 的 university 运动 和 in support of programs like admissions, Center for Career Readiness 和 的 arts.
For 的 alumni association 的 engagement goal is a open call for Bears of all generations to connect, engage 和 contribute back to 的ir alma mater.
